Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Panagia the Life-Giving Spring and Jesus Christ.
The miraculous story of Panagia the Life-giving Spring dates back to 450 AD. when the Byzantine soldier Leon met a blind man in a forest who asked him for water. After Leo's fruitless efforts to find water in the forest, a woman's voice was heard saying to him: "Leon, you don't have to worry, the water is right next to you".
The voice went on to say to him: "Give some of this water to the man to quench his thirst, and then smear his eyes with it so that you may know who the voice is that is talking to you."
Thus, Panagia presented water in front of Leon and gave the blind man his sight.
When, after years, Leon became King he erected in the place of the miraculous spring, a Temple dedicated to Panagia the Life-giving Spring, so that her miracles would continue.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Panagia the Life-Giving Spring is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
