Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of the Ten Saints of Crete.
The Ten Saints of Crete fought for the teaching of the Gospel on the island of Crete during the years of the empire of Decius. Many times their unwavering faith in the teachings of the Lord brought them face to face with the wrath of the local governor, but nothing could take them off the path of Christianity.
The names of the Ten Saints of Crete, that is Theodulus, Saturninus, Euporus, Gelasius, Eunikianos, Zotikus, Agathopus, Vassiliadis, Evarestus and Mobius, remained in the memory of the Church on the day when the governor gave the order for their beheading.
Troparion
Let us show forth our great praise of Crete / that brought forth these precious Christians: the pearls of Christ! / And these blessed ten, the offspring of martyrs, / who though few in number, overcame all the deceits of powerful demons. / Therefore these martyrs of Christ have been crowned with victory!
