Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Nicholas Planas, Priest in Athens.
Saint Nicholas Planas was born in 1851 in Naxos in a Christian family. His grandfather was a priest and, from a young age, Nicholaos expressed the desire to be close to God.
With the death of his father, Nicholas settled with his mother in Athens and, a few years later, married Eleni Proveleggiou, who died giving birth to their first child.
After his widowhood, Nicholas decided to dedicate himself to the Church, which he did. He was ordained a deacon and then an elder while he became known for his miracles and the ascetic life he followed.
In 1982, after his morning service at the Church of Saint John on Vouliagmenis Street, he died. His holy relics are kept inside the Temple.
Kontakion of Saint Nicholas Planas
Humble of spirit and pure of heart, illustrious in life and dispassionate of a truth, wast thou, O wise one. Thou didst illumine all by the virtues and dost grant grace unto them that draw nigh unto thee; and by thine intercessions, thou dost heal them that call upon thee, O Father Nicholas.
The Icon of Saint Nicholas Planas is an exact copy of Byzantine art and is created by experienced craftsmen using the method of gold printing where hagiographic leaves of 22 karat gold are applied in detail to decorate the background.
During the final processing, the icon is painted with dark red color around the perimeter and polished with a special varnish to maintain its shine.
It is offered in level or recessed wooden surface and is suitable for wall mounting.
