Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Lawrence the Deacon.
Saint Lawrence was a Deacon under Pope Sixtus II, who entrusted him with the treasures of the Church when the persecutions of the Emperor Valerian began in AD 258.
When the Roman soldiers forced St. Lawrence to hand over the property of the Church to them, he asked for a few days to collect it but instead, distributed it to the believers.
This decision enraged the soldiers and as a result they subjected Saint Lawrence to torture and finally to beheading.
Apolytikion of Saint Lawrence the Deacon
Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since he possessed Thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.
