Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Xene.
Saint Xene was born in 1730 in Saint Petersburg. She was married to Andreas, who was a member of the army. After the sudden death of Andreas, Saint Xene left the city for eight years and went to a hermitage to follow the word of God.
When she returned, she wore her dead husband's uniform, adopted his name, and lived on the streets as a wanderer. Passers-by treated her as crazy, but Saint Xene was dedicated to her faith and possessed the gift of prophecy.
She passed away around 1800 and her tomb became the site of great miracles.
Apolytikion of Saint Xene
Plagal of the Fourth Tone
In thee, O wandering stranger, Christ the Lord hath given us an ardent intercessor for our kind. For having received in thy life sufferings and grief and served God and men with love, thou didst acquire great boldness. Wherefore, we fervently hasten to thee in temptations and grief, crying out from the depths of our hearts: Put not our hope to shame, O Blessed Xenia.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Xene is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
