Monastic Schema with a dark background and multicolored embroidery. The Sponge and the Lance, the Symbols of the Passion, are placed between the Cross of Calvary in the center, and the Crown of Thorns that Jesus Christ wore at the Crucifixion is also embroidered.
The Polyommata Cherubim, or their angelic form, which is encircled by many eyes, are located in the upper section. The embroidered symbols that are found traditionally on a Monastic Schema, decorate the rest of the fabric.
Saint Pachomios was the first to clothe the monks with the Monastic Schema, thus symbolizing their second Baptism.
The abbreviations written on each Monastic Schema extol the "preaching of the Cross" (1 Corinthians 1:18) as the supreme power of God. From Top to Bottom:

• ΙC XC NIKΑ – Ιησούς Χριστός νικά, meaning ”Jesus Christ conquers”
• ΤΤΔΦ – Τετιμημένον τρόπαιον δαιμόνων φρίκη, meaning “Honored trophy, the dread of demons”
• ΡΡΔΡ – Ρητορικοτέρα Ρητόρων Δακρύων Ροή, meaning “A flow of tears more eloquent than orators”
• ΧΧΧΧ – Χριστός Χριστιανοίς Χαρίζεται Χάριν, meaning “Christ bestoweth Grace upon Christians”
• ΞΓΘΗ – Ξύλου Γεύσις Θάνατον Ηγαγεν, meaning “The tasting of the tree brought about death”
• CΞΖΕ – Σταυρού Ξύλω Ζωήν Εύρομεν, meaning “Through the Tree of the Cross have we found life”
• ΕΕΕΕ – Εωσφόρος Έπεσεν. Εύρωμεν Εδέμ ή Ελένης Εύρεσις Εβραίων Έλεγχος, meaning “The discovery of Helen hath uncovered Eden”
• ΦΧΦΠ – Φως Χριστού Φαίνοι Πάσι, meaning “The light of Christ shines upon all”
• ΘΘΘΘ – Θεού Θέα Θείον Θαύμα, meaning “The vision of God, a Divine wonder”
• ΤCΔΦ – Τούτο (το) Σχήμα Δαίμονες Φρίτουσιν, meaning “Demons dread the sign of the Cross”
• ΤΚΠΓ – Τόπος Κρανίου Παράδεισος Γέγονε, meaning “The Place of the Skull hath become Paradise”
• ΞΖ – Ξύλον Ζωής, meaning “Tree of life”
Through strict monasticism, the monks make the supreme pledge of devotion and loyalty to Jesus Christ and the Monastic Schema is the reminder of the renunciation of the world and the dedication to a life of spiritual discipline and contemplation.
