Diaphanous Byzantine Icon of Saint Paraskevi.
Saint Paraskevi was born in Rome to Christian parents who raised her with the Word of God. When her parents passed away, Saint Paraskevi gave her property to the poor and devoted herself to preach Christianity.
The Roman Emperor Antoninus demanded from Agia Paraskevi to convert, but she strongly refused and as a result she was sentenced to torture. Despite being immersed in a cauldron of hot oil, she miraculously survived. When Antoninus approached to ascertain what was happening, he was blinded. After Saint Paraskevi miraculously healed him, Antoninos freed her to continue her work.
With the new persecution instituted by Antoninus' successor, Marcus Aurelius, Agia Paraskevi was beheaded.
