Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saints Eustratius, Auxentius, Eugene, Mardarius, Orestes and Saint Lucy.
Saints Eustratius, Auxentius, Eugene, Mardarius and Orestes acted during the years of persecutions unleashed by the emperor Diocletian. All of them suffered horrible martyrdom and in the end were killed in the fire.
Saint Lucy was originally from Syracuse, Sicily, and her husband was a pagan. In one of her visions, Saint Agathi told her that her mother's health would be restored, but she herself would have a martyr's end. Indeed, after some time Saint Lucy was captured for her faith and tortured by Roman soldiers.
As her eyes were removed shortly before her end, Saint Lucy is considered the patron saint of eyes and celebrates on the same day as the Martyrs of Sebastia.
Kontakion of Saints Eustratius, Auxentius, Eugene, Mardarius, Orestes
[Podoben: “Neither the tomb, nor death could hold…” (Kontakion for the Dormition)]
You shone as a most brilliant light for those who sat in the darkness of ignorance, O Prizewinner. / And armed with faith as with a spear, / you were not frightened by the audacity of your adversaries, / O Eustratios, most eloquent of orators.
Kontakion of Saint Lucy
We honor you, pure Virgin and trophy-bearer Lucy, / and we praise your illustrious contest; / for you desired only the beauty of Christ, / disdaining all corruptible things. / When you were beheaded, you received incorruptible glory.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saints Eustratius, Auxentius, Eugene, Mardarius, Orestes and Saint Lucy is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
