Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Photios the Great, Patriarch of Constantinople.
Saint Photius the Great was born around 820 in Constantinople to a noble family and received a high level of education. He was a man of morals and integrity, who responded with skill to diplomatic and political projects.
He ascended the patriarchal throne in 857 and fought against heresies and attacks, made to strike Christianity. At the same time, he made sure not to neglect his writing work, which is why many of his writings have survived to this day.
After his final dethronement, in 878, Saint Photius retired to the Armenian Monastery in Constantinople until his death.

As a teacher to the world, being one with the Apostles, intercede with the Lord of all, O Photios, that He may grant the world peace, and to our souls His great mercy.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Photius the Great, Patriarch of Constantinople is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
