Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Panagia "Of the Myrtle Tree" with Jesus Christ.
According to tradition, the miraculous Icon of Panagia "Of the Myrtle Tree" was found on the island of Kythira, in the 13th century, in a place overgrown with myrtles, hence the name that it bears. Panagia appeared through a vision to a shepherd and indicated to him the spot where the Icon was.
Then, at the place where the Icon was found, a Church dedicated to Panagia "Of the Myrtle Tree" and her miracles was built.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Panagia "Of the Myrtle Tree" is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
