Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Virgin Mary and Child in Bust. Virgin Mary is depicted according to the "Sweet Kissing" type.
Panagia "Sweet Kissing" (in Greek "Glykophilousa") is a popular miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary with great theological interest as, the original, it was miraculously saved from the iconoclasm of the 9th century.
Specifically, the pious Christian, Victoria, threw the icon into the sea in order to save it from destruction. In a miraculous way, the icon reached Mount Athos, at the Holy Monastery of Philotheοu, where it was rescued by the abbot and monks, to whom Panagia appeared in a vision to notify them of the miraculous event.
At the spot where the Icon of Panagia "Sweet Kissing" was found, holy water sprang up and, to this day, a liturgy and holy water is held on Monday of the Diakainisimi Week.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Panagia "Sweet Kissing" is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
