Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Olga, Princess of Russia.
Saint Olga was the wife of the head of state of the Rus, Igor, who ruled around the 10th century. After Igor's death, Saint Olga took over the leadership of the state for almost twenty years, until her son was old enough to assume his duty.
In 995 AD, Saint Olga converted to Christianity and was baptized Helen, continuing to perform her duties with wisdom and faith in God.
She died peacefully in 969 AD at an advanced age and received the title of "Equal to the Apostles".
Apolytikion
Giving thy mind wings with the knowledge of God, thou didst soar beyond visible creatures, seeking the God and Creator of all things; and having found Him, thou didst receive rebirth by baptism. Since thou dost enjoy the Tree of Life, thou remainest incorrupt for all eternity, O ever-glorious Olga.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Olga is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
