Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Myrrh Bearers at the Tomb.
The Myrrh Bearers devotedly followed Jesus Christ in his sermons, and later, at his burial, they were with him again, anointing his body with myrrh. They were the first to be informed by the Angel of the Lord about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and they announced the news to his disciples.
Our Church honors the memory of the Myrrh Bearing Women on the second or third Sunday following Pascha, which is called the Sunday of the Myrrh Bearers.
Kontakion for the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers
When You did cry, Rejoice, unto the Myrrh-bearers, You did make the lamentation of Eve the first mother to cease by Your Resurrection, O Christ God. And You did bid Your Apostles to preach: The Savior is risen from the grave.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of the Myrrh Bearers is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
