Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Michael Paknanas, the New Martyr.
Saint Michael was born in Athens to poor but pious parents, who taught him the Word of God. As he had no education, he worked as a gardener to support himself and his struggling family.
Once, he was captured by the Turks and falsely accused of supplying ammunition to the Greek resistance, and was later sentenced to beheaded. They offered him the option to live if he converted to Islam. Saint Michael did not accept to deny his faith despite the pressures of the Turks.
After suffering a few more tortures, he was beheaded in 1771 AD in Athens.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Michael Paknanas is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
