Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary.
After the Crucifixion of the Lord and by his command, the Virgin Mary lived with the Evangelist John, his brother James and their mother, Salome. Three days before her death, the Archangel Gabriel revealed her death to her and she rejoiced because she would now be with her son, the Savior of the world.
When the day arrived, the Apostles were away preaching the Gospel, but a sudden cloud transported them to the deathbed of the Virgin Mary, in the house of John.
After her dormition, she was taken to her tomb in Gethsemane from where she rose on the third day.

The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
