Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Theoktistus.
Saint Theoktistus was an ascetic with Euthymios the Great in adjacent cells near the Lavra of Pharan. They were devoted to prayer and the teachings of the Scriptures.
Their humble life became a model for many ascetics, who often visited them to receive their blessing. For this reason, Saint Theoktistus and Megas Euthymios built a monastery together to accommodate all the visitors.
Saint Theoktistus, who also abbot of the monastery, passed away peacefully at an old age.
Apolytikion of Saint Theoktistus
With the rivers of your tears, you have made the barren desert fertile. Through sighs of sorrow from deep within you, your labors have borne fruit a hundred-fold. By your miracles you have become a light, shining upon the world. O Theoktistos, our Holy Father, pray to Christ our God, to save our souls.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Theoktistus is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
