Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Theodore the Great Martyr, Tyro.
Saint Theodore the Great Martyr, Tyro, came from the Black Sea and belonged to the Tyrones, i.e. the newly recruited soldiers. When his officers discovered his faith, they asked him to renounce it. However, he refused and was tortured in a red-hot furnace until his death.
Apolytikion of Saint Theodore the Great Martyr, Tyro
Great are the achievements of faith! In the fountain of flame, as by the water of rest, the holy Martyr Theodore rejoiced; for having been made a whole-burnt offering in the fire, he was offered as sweet bread unto the Trinity. By his prayers, O Christ God, save our souls.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Theodore the Great Martyr, Tyro, is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
