Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the Holy Unmercenaries.
The brothers Cosmas and Damian, also known as "the Holy Unmercenaries", acted as doctors during the empire of Karinus, without monetary remuneration but with the exhortation for the sick to believe in Christ.
After being accused of witchcraft, Saints Cosmas and Damian were brought before the emperor who asked them to deny Christianity. They did not accept but another miraculous event happened during their interrogation: Karinus' head changed position. The Saints healed him with prayer and Marinus was convinced and converted to Christianity.
However, because of the great spread of their name and their cures, their teacher stoned them to death.

The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saints Cosmas and Damian, the Holy Unmercenaries is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
