Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Aquila the Apostle.
Saint Aquila the Apostole lived, together with his wife Priscilla, in Rome. The decree of Claudius, which expelled all Jews from Rome, forced them to settle in Corinth, where they met the Apostle Paul after his missionary tour of Athens.
They were baptised by Apostle Paul and decided to follow him in his great work of preaching the Gospel. Years passed and the blessed couple, Saint Aquila the Apostle and Priscilla, returned to Rome, but Aquila soon left for missionary work in Asia. Priscilla followed him faithfully.
Their Christian activity angered their opponents, who finally beheaded them.
Troparion of Saint Aquila the Apostle
As a disciple and companion of Paul / you received in your soul the grace of preaching. / You shone in the night of error and struggled for the Lord’s glory. / Sacred minister of the Savior, Aquila, we all acclaim you.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Aquila the Apostle is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
