Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Catherine, the Great Martyr of Alexandria.
Saint Catherine was born in Alexandria, Egypt from a royal family and already at a young age she had a lot of knowledge. She converted to Christianity and performed great works in favor of Christians, which angered the pagans who ordered her imprisonment.
They tried to make her convert but not only did that not happen, but she managed to convince many about the True God.
After this, the Prefect was enraged and ordered the torture and beheading of Saint Catherine.
Apolytikion of Saint Catherine
Let us praise the most auspicious bride of Christ, the divine Katherine, protectress of Sinai, our aid and our help. For, she brilliantly silenced the eloquence of the impious by the sword of the spirit, and now, crowned as a martyr, she asks great mercy for all.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Catherine, the Great Martyr of Alexandria is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
