Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of the First Holy Ecumenical Council, at Nice of Bithynia.
The First Holy Ecumenical Council took place in 325 AD in Nice in Bithynia with the aim to condemn Arianism and set a universal pattern for calculating the date of Easter.
It was convened by Saint Constantine the Great and about 300 bishops of the Church participated.
The impact of the First Holy Ecumenical Council was great for Christianity and the Church, because it established the Nicene Creed, a text defining state of belief in the Triune God.
The next Ecumenical Council was convened by Theodosius the Great in 381 AD and was held in Constantinople.
Troparion of Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council
You are most glorious, O Christ our God! You have established the Holy Fathers as lights on the earth! Through them you have guided us to the true faith! O greatly Compassionate One, glory to You!
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of the First Holy Ecumenical Council is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
