Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Eftixios.
Saint Eftixios was born in 512 AD in Theia Komi, Phrygia and received a Christian education from his family. Growing up, he followed the monastic life, in which he quickly distinguished himself and was ordained elder of the the Amasean monasteries.
Patriarch Minas, like Emperor Justinian I, distinguished him for his gifts and together they qualified his election as Patriarch, after the passing of Minas.
However, Saint Eftixios was not long in coming into conflict with the emperor, as he strongly opposed the heretics in contrast to Justinian. This led to his removal and his exile for over ten years, until his return.
From then on, Saint Eftixios remained Patriarch of Constantinople until his peaceful death.
Troparion of Saint Eftixios
In truth you were revealed to your flock as a rule of faith, / an image of humility and a teacher of abstinence; / your humility exalted you; / your poverty enriched you. / Hierarch Father Eutychius, / entreat Christ our God / that our souls may be saved.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Eftixios is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
