Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Panagia Phaneromene.
As during the Iconoclasm the icons were in danger of destruction, many were buried or hidden by the faithful for their protection. Finding them after many years was usually done through miracles such as visions with Panagia pointing to the place where there is an Icon of her. Thus the name "Phaneromene" meaning "Revealed" indicates just this manifestation of the icon.
Miraculous Icons of Panagia Phaneromene are found in many churches in Greece, the most famous being that of Salamina, and monasteries such as the Monastery of Phaneromene in Chiliomodi in Corinth and the Monastery of Phaneromene in Lefkada.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Panagia Phaneromene is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
