Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Panagia Joy of those who Grieve.
The miraculous Icon of Panagia Joy of those who Grieve was found inside a Church in the village of Klotsky, Russia and was miraculously saved when the Church was destroyed in the 19th century.
In addition, Efthymia, the sister of Patriarch Joachim who was suffering from an incurable disease, also witnessed the miracles of the Icon when in 1688 during her prayer she heard a voice telling her to visit the Temple of the Transfiguration, to find the icon of Joy of those who Grieve and then tell the Priest to make a sanctification in order to be healed.
The miracle took place on October 24 (according to the old calendar followed by the Russian Orthodox) and is celebrated every year in Russia.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon of Panagia Joy of those who Grieve a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Icon is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
