Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Panagia The Grate Grace.
The miraculous Icon of Panagia The Grate Grace is located in the Church of Evangelistria in Tinos and is the largest Orthodox pilgrimage site in Greece.
On July 23, 1822, Panagia appeared in a vision of nun Pelagia and asked her to dig in the field she indicated to find her icon. Indeed, on January 30, 1823 the icon was discovered and the Church was built on the exact location.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon of Panagia the Grate Grace a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Icon is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
