Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Glykeria.
Saint Glykeria was born in the 2nd century AD in Traianoupolis and from a young age she expressed her love for Christianity.
When the ruler Sabinus learned about the faith of Saint Glykeria, he invited her to renounce her faith, but she refused. For this reason she was stoned outside the Temple, in which she was subjected to sacrifice to idols. Despite this, no stone hurt the Saint, which prompted many to believe in the power of Jesus Christ.
Determined to exterminate her, Sabinus locked her in an arena with beasts, which at first did not rush at her, but eventually, one of them mortally wounded her.
Troparion of Saint Glykeria
Your lamb Glyceria, calls out to You, O Jesus, in a loud voice: / “I love You, my Bridegroom, and in seeking You I endure suffering. / In baptism I was crucified so that I might reign in You, / and I died so that I might live with You. / Accept me as a pure sacrifice, / for I have offered myself in love.” / Through her prayers save our souls, since You are merciful.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Glykeria is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
