Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Euphrosynos the Cooker.
Saint Euphrosynos was a poor man without knowledge, who at a young age joined a convent. He helped in the kitchen and, because of his simplicity and humility, he was often mocked by the other monks.
One night, a priest saw in a vision Saint Euphrosynos, giving him three apples from God's garden. When he woke up, the three apples were on his cassock and so, the priest hurried to tell his story to the rest of the monks. After hearing about the vision, they recognized the power of God and cut the apples into small pieces, which they offered to everyone, so that everyone could benefit from them.
When they later looked for Saint Euphrosynos to ask for his blessing, they realized that he had disappeared.
Kontakion of Saint Euphrosynos
You shared in heavenly gladness because of your angelic life, / and you appeared as one equal in honor to the Angels, / with them, O Euphrósynos, intercede for those who honor you.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Euphrosynos the Cooker is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
