Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Hermione.
Saint Hermione was daughter of Saint Philip the Deacon and was blessed with the prophetic gift.
According to Christian tradition, when Trajan visited Ephesus, he called upon Saint Hermione to prophesy to him regarding his impending battle with the Persians. She told him that the Persians would be defeated, but his son-in-law, Andrianos, would be made King, not him.
When the prophecy came true, Trajan sent soldiers to track down Saint Hermione and torture her. However, the patience she showed convinced the soldiers of the power of Jesus Christ and they set her free.
She died peacefully and was buried in Ephesus.
Troparion of Saint Hermione
O pure one, you were an unsullied virgin, remaining chaste, and wedded to the Word, / Who was born of the Pure Virgin, according to the flesh; / thus you received divine grace for the labors of godliness, / to enlighten those in error; / therefore, O Hermione, Christ has glorified you.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Hermione is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
