Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint George of Ioannina.
Saint George was born in 1808 in Ioannina to a poor family and was orphaned at a young age. Ηe worked as a groom and married to have a family.
In 1836 he was reported to the local lord, with false accusations, that while he had converted to Islam, he was living as a Christian. He was not found guity for this accusation but a few years later the same charge was brought against him.
Saint George once again confessed his true faith, which he never changed, but his accusers were not convinced and ordered his hanging.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate canonized him in 1839.

Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint George of Ioannina is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
