Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Four Holy Neomartyrs of Rethymne.
The Four Holy Neomartyrs were born in the village of Melampes in Rethymnon and belonged to the same family. Angelis, Manuel, Nikolaos and George lived as crypto-Christians until the Greek revolution of 1821.
Then, after confessing their faith, they were arrested by the Turks and imprisoned. As they refused to convert, they were beheaded at the "Great Gate" of Rethymnon.

Let us loudly and devoutly sing praises for the courageous martyrs of Melampes, who dies for Christ our God in Rethymno, and let us gladly celebrate their memory.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Four Holy Neomartyrs of Rethymne is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
