Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Mercurios.
Saint Mercurios was a soldier in the army of Emperor Decius.
In one battle, he managed to mortally wound the leader of the opposing army and was awarded the rank of commander-in-chief. Nevertheless, he did not accept to sacrifice to the idols, as he was commanded, and boldly maintained his faith in Jesus Christ.
When the king was informed of the faith of Saint Mercurios, he ordered his torture and beheading.
Apolytikion of Saint Mercurios
Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since he possessed Thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Mercurios is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
