Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Simon Zelotes the Apostle.
Apostle Simon the Zelotes was one of the Twelve Apostles. He came from Cana and was also known by the name of "Simon the Cananite". The name "Zealot" was given to him because of the zeal he showed in teaching the Gospel.
After the Ascension of Jesus Christ, the Apostle Simon the Zelotes devoted himself to his missionary work and traveled to Egypt and Persia to preach the Word of God. Christian tradition states that he was captured by pagans in Britain, where he had been to preach the Gospel, and condemned to death by crucifixion.
Apolytikion of Simon Zelotes
O Holy Apostle Simon, intercede to our merciful God, that He may grant our souls forgiveness of sins.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Simon Zelotes the Apostle is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
