Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Anne the Mother of Theotokos.
Saint Anne came from the tribe of Levi and was the mother of the Virgin Mary, who gave birth to Jesus Christ. The name "Anne" comes from the corresponding Hebrew "Hanna" which has the meaning of "favour" and "grace".
After the Presentation of the Virgin Mary to the Temple, when Anne together with her husband Joachim left the young Mary in the Temple of Solomon in Jerusalem, she dedicated her life to God, with fasting and prayer. To her fellow human beings she was philanthropic and showed charity to those who needed her.
Troparion
Since you were righteous under the law of grace, O Joachim and Anna,
For our sake you gave birth to the God-given Infant.
The divine Church today therefore feasts radiantly,
Joyfully celebrating your honorable memory and giving glory to God Who has raised up a horn of salvation from the house of David!
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Anne the Mother of Theotokos is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
