Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saints Methodius and Cyril.
Saints Methodius and Cyril were brothers born in Thessaloniki who followed the Christian work from a young age. Having the necessary philological, philosophical and theological education, they undertook the evangelization of the Western Slavs, which was assigned to them by the Patriarch of Constantinople, Photius. For this, they were announced Illuminators of the Slavs.
Their missionary work became known mainly for the progress they made with regard to the Slavs, and they were praised for the Glagolitic Alphabet of their own invention, which aided them in teaching the sacred texts.
Apolytikion of Saints Methodius and Cyril
Since ye were equal in character to the Apostles, and teachers of the Slavic lands, O divinely-wise Cyril and Methodius, pray to the Lord of all to strengthen all nations in Orthodoxy and unity of thought, to convert and reconcile the world to God, and to save our souls.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saints Methodius and Cyril is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
