Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Saint Matrona of Chios.
At first, Osia Matrona was called Maria but changed her name when she was ordained. He was born and raised in Volissos of Chios in a religious family. Unlike her sisters, Matrona never desired family life but chose the monastic community when her parents died.
By selling her property, she raised money to build a monastery and a temple. For her meekness and faith, the nuns elected her Abbess. She died peacefully in 1462.
Apolytikion of Saint Matrona
[Faithfully] following the steps of Christ [our God], you left behind you all the pleasures of the world, and imitated in the flesh the lifestyle of the angels. Wherefore with the gifts bestowed by the Spirit you brightened up your homeland, the Island of Chios, O Maiden extolled by all. And therefore it cries out to you joyfully: Rejoice, O all-honorable Matrona.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Saint Matrona of Chios is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
Note: The final Icon may slightly differ from the catalog photo.
