Aged-Wooden Byzantine Icon of Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist.
The Apostle and Evangelist Matthew was originally from Galilee and followed the profession of tax collector. He met Jesus Christ in Capernaum, where the Lord saw him outside the customs house and told him to follow Him. Matthew did as he was asked without hesitation and from that moment he became one of the most faithful Apostles and disciples of Jesus Christ.
For a decade he preached Christianity to the nations and wrote the famous "Gospel of Matthew" in 64 AD. He was martyred in Ethiopia.

O Holy Apostle and Evangelist Matthew, intercede to our merciful God, that He may grant our souls forgiveness of sins.
The aging technique is meticulously applied to the Icon by hand and gives it the look of time while the depiction retains its artistic details.
Around the perimeter, the aging becomes more apparent with frayed edges that give the Icon a distinctive appearance.
During the final processing, the Aged-Wooden Icon of Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist is polished with a special varnish to withstand time.
