Handmade Byzantine Icon of Saint Melania the Younger, Nun of Rome.
Saint Melania the Younger was born during the reign of King Honorius in a noble family. She started her own family early, but it was destroyed after the death of her husband and children.
After her parents also died, Saint Melania devoted herself to the word of God and committed herself to charitable work to relieve the needy from their suffering. Still, he prayed and studied on a daily basis tirelessly.
Her last years were spent in Jerusalem, where she had gone to take care of the sick.
Troparion
The image of God was truly preserved in you, O Mother, / for you took up the Cross and followed Christ. / By so doing, you taught us to disregard the flesh, for it passes away; / but to care instead for the soul, since it is immortal. / Therefore your spirit, O holy Mother Melania, rejoices with the angels.
Kontakion
As a two-fold lamp you illumine the Church of Christ / with truly mystical radiance. / You brought forth a hundred-fold fruit through your contest, O Anysia; / and you shone forth in asceticism, O Melania. / You were both found worthy of the incorruptible life of the righteous.
