Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Christodoulos of Patmos.
Saint Christodoulos was born in Bithynia with the name John from a pious family. His parents, Theodoros and Anna, taught him the teachings of Jesus Christ and he wanted to follow them faithfully.
After some years, he became a monk and received the name Christodoulos (meaing "slave of Christ" in Greek). He traveled to many parts of Asia Minor and visited many islands, but he decided to get permission and aid from the emperor Alexios I Comnenus to build a monastery in Patmos.
His wish came true and the monastery in honor of Saint John the Theologian was built. Saint Christodoulos was a monk there until he fled to Evia after the Arab invasion.
He died in 1101 and his holy relic was transferred to Patmos, where it remains to this day.
