Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Tryphon.
Saint Tryphon was from Phrygia and his family was poor, so he did not receive the education he desired. Nevertheless, with personal effort and willingness he studied the Scriptures and the teachings of Jesus Christ. In the following years, he preached Christianity and was blessed with the gift of miracles with which he helped many people in need.
In 250 AD he was arrested for his faith and brought before the local rulers to deny Christ. When Saint Tryphon refused to convert, they subjected him to severe torture, which did not shake his faith. Moments after his gruesome death, the pagans beheaded him.
Apolytikion
Thy Martyr, O Lord, in his courageous contest for Thee received as the prize the crowns of incorruption and life from Thee, our immortal God. For since he possessed Thy strength, he cast down the tyrants and wholly destroyed the demons' strengthless presumption. O Christ God, by his prayers, save our souls, since Thou art merciful.
