Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
The Holy Apostles Peter and Paul were chosen by Jesus Christ to become Apostles and to teach the Gospel to the Jews as well as to the nations.
Apostle Peter was originally from Bethsaida in Galilee and was a fisherman by profession. Near the lake of Gennesaret where he and his brother Andreas were fishing, they met Jesus Christ whom they followed faithfully.
Apostle Paul was born a pagan in Tarsus, Cilicia, but on a trip to Damascus he met Jesus Christ through a miracle and thus embraced Christianity.
The two are the leading Apostles of our Church who preached the Truth and the Word of God during their tours. They breathed their last in martyrdom in Rome.
