Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Panages Basias, of Kephallenia.
Saint Panages Basias was born in 1801 in Kefalonia and received a rich education in the field of philosophy and theology. After the death of his father and at the age of 20, he decides to become a monk in Xiroskopelos, but quickly returns to Kefalonia near his mother and his sister, while continuing the monastic life.
After a few years, he was ordained a deacon, taking the name Paisios. In the following years, he devoted himself to benefactions and alms that spread his fame and gained followers who fled to Kefalonia to receive his grace.
He died in 1888 and his holy relics were collected in 1976 to be kept in the Holy Church of Saint Spyridon in Lixouri.
