Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of the Virgin Mary of the Charon.
The Church of Virgin Mary of the Charon was built in Lipsi, Dodecanese, around 1600 by monks from Patmos. It is famous for the miraculous icon that can be found in the Church and depicts the Virgin Mary holding Jesus Christ as dead on the Cross.
Because of this unprecedented depiction that has a strong element of death, the Icon was called "Virgin Mary of the Charon" as "Charos" in Greek is a symbol of death.
Hand-Painted Icons occupy a valuable place in ecclesiastical art because, beyond their obvious artistic value, a hand-painted icon unites man with the holiness of the depicted person.
For the Hand-Painted Icon of Virgin Mary of the Charon, our experienced painters use traditional techniques and high-quality materials that offer excellent depiction and durability over time.
