Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Virgin Mary of Prousa.
The miraculous Icon of Panagia of Prousa ("Prousiotissa") was saved from Bursa in Asia Minor around 829 AD during the era of iconoclasm. The icon was taken all the way to Thrace by a young man, but its traces were mysteriously lost there.
Then, the Icon was revealed to a shepherd, in the area of Evrytania, in the form of a column of light indicating in this way the spot where the Virgin wanted the current monastery to be build.
Hand-Painted Icons occupy a valuable place in ecclesiastical art because, beyond their obvious artistic value, a hand-painted icon unites man with the holiness of the depicted person.
For the Hand-Painted Icon of Panagia of Prousa, our experienced painters use traditional techniques and high-quality materials that offer excellent depiction and durability over time.
