Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Panagia The Myrtidiotissa (in Greek it means "from the Myrtle Tree"). Panagia is depicted holding Jesus Christ in her arms.
According to tradition, the miraculous Icon of Panagia Myrtidiotissa was found on the island of Kythira, in the 13th century, in a place overgrown with myrtles, hence the name that it bears. Panagia appeared through a vision to a shepherd and indicated to him the spot where the Icon was.
Then, at the place where the Icon was found, a Church dedicated to Panagia Myrtidiotissa and her miracles was built.
