Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of the Placing of the Cincture.
In 395 AD, King Arcadius transported the Holy Cincture of the Virgin Mary from Jerusalem to Constantinople, which he kept in a golden coffer, the so-called Agia Soros.
After 410 years, the coffer was opened by the emperor Leo VI the Wise to heal his wife, Zoe, who was suffering from an illness, with the relic and the grace of the Virgin Mary.
Afterwards, the Holy Cincture of the Virgin Mary was cut up and taken to various temples and churches. A piece of it can be found in the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi on Mount Athos, which was donated by the Serbian ruler Lazarus in 1101.
Hand-Painted Icons occupy a valuable place in ecclesiastical art because, beyond their obvious artistic value, a hand-painted icon unites man with the holiness of the depicted person.
For the Hand-Painted Icon of the Placing of the Cincture, our experienced painters use traditional techniques and high-quality materials that offer excellent depiction and durability over time.
