Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Meletius, Archbishop of Antioch.
Saint Meletius of Antioch was born in 310 in Melitini, Armenia, and followed a theological education. He was elected Bishop of Sebastia and Archbishop of Antioch, but remained in the post for a few days as the Arianists persuaded Emperor Constantius to exile him to Armenia.
His expulsion lasted over forty years, until in 381 the emperor Theodosius the Great invited Saint Meletius to preside over the Second Ecumenical Council. Unfortunately, Saint Meletius felt unwell while at the Council and died soon after.
