Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Mark, Archbishop of Ephesus.
Saint Mark, Archbishop of Ephesus was born in 1392 AD and was brought up with a Christian education. He received theological and philosophical studies and succeeded his father in teaching.
In the following years, Saint Mark wanted to devote himself to God, and so he became a monk. Over the years, he became a priest and was later ordained Archbishop of Ephesus.
In the synod held for the union of the Eastern and Western Churches, Saint Mark found many opponents as he did not want to sign in favor of it.
He was arrested and imprisoned in Lemnos for two years and then returned to Constantinople until his death in 1444.
