Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Hierotheus Hieromartyr, Bishop of Athens.
Saint Hierotheus was a member of the Supreme Court of Athens. Listening to the preaching of the Apostle Paul, he was convinced to embrace Christianity and, because of his virtues, he was ordained Bishop of Athens.
His work was continued by his student Saint Dionysius the Areopagite, who made great progress.
Saint Hierotheus passed away peacefully at an old age and his holy skull is kept on Mount Athos.
Apolytikion of Saint Hierotheus
Since thou hadst been instructed in uprightness thoroughly and wast vigilant in all things, thou wast clothed with a good conscience as befitteth one holy. Thou didst draw from the Chosen Vessel ineffable mysteries; and having kept the Faith, thou didst finish a like course, O Hieromartyr Hierotheus. Intercede with Christ God that our souls be saved.
