Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Theoctistus.
Saint Theoctistus was an ascetic with Euthymios the Great in adjacent cells near the Lavra of Pharan. They were devoted to prayer and the teachings of the Scriptures.
Their humble life became a model for many ascetics, who often visited them to receive their blessing. For this reason, Saint Theoctistus and Megas Euthymios built a monastery together to accommodate all the visitors.
Saint Theoctistus, who also abbot of the monastery, passed away peacefully at an old age.
Apolytikion of Saint Theoctistus
With the rivers of your tears, you have made the barren desert fertile. Through sighs of sorrow from deep within you, your labors have borne fruit a hundred-fold. By your miracles you have become a light, shining upon the world. O Theoktistos, our Holy Father, pray to Christ our God, to save our souls.
