Byzantine Hand Painted Icon of Saint Theodore the Confessor, Abbot of the Studion.
Saint Theodore the Confessor, Abbot of the Studion, also known as Stoudites, was born in 759 AD in Constantinople to a pious family. He became a monk at the Monastery of Sakkoudion, and then its abbot, but after some years he was exiled to Thessaloniki, as he objected to the marriage of King Constantine VI.
Upon his return, he became abbot of the Monastery of Studium, until his second exile. On his return, Saint Theodore was exiled for the third time by Leo the Fifth, because he was in favor of restoring the Icons.
He died peacfully in 826 AD and was at first buried in the Princes' Islands and then in the Monastery of Studium.
